Generating samples (utterances) variations automatically

Interaction editor

Creating a high-quality conversation dictionary requires a lot of samples. Very quickly the maintenance of such a huge list of textual samples becomes a burden.

Creating samples

For example for the Check Balance intent we can use the following samples:

What is my {Type} account balance
What is my {Type} balance
What is my account balance
What is my balance
What's my {Type} account balance
What's my {Type} balance
What's my account balance
What's my balance

Notice – “{Type}” represents the different account types (Checking, Savings, etc.), and you don’t have to provide a different sample for each.

Automatically generate sample variations

Even the short examples, you will notice there is a lot of repetition, so imagine setting and maintaining a dictionary with hundreds of different samples. To help you with that we have integrated a samples expander feature, that helps you to use one sample to generate all the different permutations. With this feature we can represent all the samples above with only one sample:

(What is|What's) my (|{Type}) (|account) balance

To provide different variations of words or phrases, enclose the set of alternatives in parentheses and separate them with a vertical bar (|). When there may or may not be a word or phrase somewhere, you can include a blank alternative.
